SOLUTION: The matrix type color liquid crystal display device of a light source color switching system includes the raster scan by which a positive voltage is applied to a liquid crystal panel and the raster scan by which a negative voltage is applied to the liquid crystal panel in a period when the images corresponding to the respective lighting colors are written. A black display subfield period for one subfield component is provided between the subfield period when the DC component of the applied voltage to the liquid crystal panel in the above period is canceled by subjecting the entire surface of the liquid crystal panel to the raster scan continuously two or more times and the images meeting the lighting colors are written and the subfield period when the images meeting the other lighting colors are next written.
