description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield tunnel connecting method which is applicable to the connection of two shield tunnels by enhancing the stability of the natural ground and achieving excellent water cutoff performance. SOLUTION: A first tunnel is excavated to a first tunnel excavation location by a first shield machine 1, and a second tunnel is excavated to a second tunnel excavation location by a second shield machine 2. Then a first cutter device 11 of the first shield machine 1 is retreated to the inside of a first outer trunk 10, and the second shield machine 2 is advanced to excavate the earth present between the first and second tunnels. Thereafter a second cutter device 21 is radially contracted, and a second cutter portion 21A and a mobile inner cylinder portion 21E are advanced into the interior of the first outer trunk 10.
