description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fast data transfer collection system using message authentication and contactless radio frequency proximity card technology in non-contact storage and retrieval of data. SOLUTION: A host provides a specific application function to a tag holder. The function is extremely secure against fraudulent use. A target controls an RF antenna and avoids collisions between multiple tags in the RF field. A tag provides reliable, high speed, and well authenticated secure exchanges of data/information with the host. This can be realized by using specially manufactured custom ASIC design for the tag. The tag includes special analog and digital circuits, a nonvolatile memory and a status logic. Each tag engages in a transaction with the target. Data of the tag are read and written by exchanging a series of messages. These exchanges establish the RF communication link, avoid communication collisions with other tags, mutually authenticate both parties, rapidly and robustly relay information through the RF communication link, and ensure the integrity and incorruptibility of the transaction.
