SOLUTION: The magnetic storage device is provided with a disk-shaped magnetic recording medium of vertical magnetic recording type to which recording is made at the surface recording density of at least 600 giga bits/square inch; a magnetic head for recording and reproduction; a rotation means for moving the magnetic head and the magnetic recording medium relatively; a driving means for positioning the position of the magnetic head in a radius direction; and a housing which accommodates them. In addition, the housing is filled with a gas having an average molecular weight of 22 or below and then sealed.
