description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedestal which copes with electronic appliances in a wide range and eliminates a need of alignment work when docking and restrictions for product design of electronic appliances are as less as possible. SOLUTION: An apparatus 10 comprises an appliance 20 having surfaces and three appliance contacts for power and data transfer, which are disposed on one of the surfaces, and an appliance docking tray 11. The appliance docking tray has a grid of electrical contacts disposed on its top surface and a switching apparatus which is coupled to the electrical contacts of the grid. The switching apparatus electronically switches between the electrical contacts to determine which of the electrical contacts touch the appliance contacts when the appliance is disposed on the top surface of the appliance docking tray.
