SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, an image density correcting means of corrects half-tone density by forming a plurality of toner pattern for half-tone density detection which vary in density level from a low-density area to right before a high-density area and compares them with a half-tone density reference value, and also corrects a detected value of the low-density area with a value obtained by deleting detected values less than a previously set low-density area deletion reference value and performing approximation processing by using a plurality of remaining detected values, so the time can greatly be shortened as compared with the generation of a density conversion table covering all gradations by complementary processing.
