description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to measure surface states of control rods used in a nuclear power plant, and surface products and material characteristics of neutron absorbing materials constituting the control rods. SOLUTION: A device for non-destructive underwater inspections of reactor control rods consists of: a fixing mechanism for fixing the device so as to sandwich a sheath part of the reactor control rods via a pad; a sensor for measuring surface deposits, surface products, material characteristics and shapes of the reactor control rods; and a sensor driving mechanism for pressing the sensor against an object to be measured after fixing the device on the reactor control rods. The surface deposits, the products and the material characteristics of the control rods used in a reactor are measured easily and precisely by remote control by the underwater inspection device.
