description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic/manual switching type extinguishing apparatus facilitating extinguishing activity against fire of specified fire protection targets and fire in fire protection sections in the vicinity of the specified fire protection targets as well, and also provide an extinguishing method used for the same. SOLUTION: The automatic/manual switching type extinguishing apparatus comprises a container 2 for extinguishing agent equipped with a container valve 4, a device 5 for automatically starting to open the container valve 4 by interlocking with action of a fire sensor 3 for sensing fire, piping 7 attached with a fixed nozzle 6 for jetting the distinguishing agent to the fire protection targets at its tip and connected with the container valve 4, and a device 9 for manually starting to open the container valve 4 by interlocking with pressing action of a press button 8 for manually starting operation. The piping 7 connects with a branched flexible hose 26 through a switching valve 25 halfway in the piping 7 and the tip of the flexible hose 26 is fitted with a jet nozzle 28 through a master valve 27.
