description | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rocking damping device for a base-isolation object which is aseismically borne by elastic bodies set on a base, and dispenses with a large cross-sectional member for bearing compressive axial force by coping with rocking vibrations by using the tension of a cable, thereby downsizing the device and cutting costs of the same. SOLUTION: The rocking damping device for the base-isolation object 22 which is aseismically borne on the base 24 via the elastic bodies 26, is formed of a pair of deformation extracting means 28, a pair of rotary drums 32, deformation converting means 34, and the cable 36. The deformation extracting means are arranged on both sides of the base-isolation object to extract vertical deformations. The rotary drums 32 are rotatably arranged on the base via respective bearing members 30. The deformation converting means 28 each convert the vertical deformation extracted by the deformation extracting means into a rotary deformation of the rotary drum 32, and then transfer the rotary deformation. The cable is subjected to predetermined tension and wrap-connected to the rotary drums 32 in a manner allowing rotation of the rotary drums when the deformations extracted by the deformation extracting means are the same in phase but inhibiting the rotation of the rotary drums 32 when the deformations are opposite in phase.
