description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector for flat cable that can prevent such disadvantage that a retainer dislodges from a connector housing when external force of bending tension acts on a flat cable. SOLUTION: The connector housing has therein a terminal storage chamber for storing a connecting terminal. The retainer 16 is inserted in the terminal storage chamber. The retainer 16 has a cable pressing portion 16a for pressing a part of the flat cable connected to the connecting terminal against the connecter housing, and a recessed step portion 16b for avoiding contact with an end of the connecting terminal. The recessed step portion 16b is so shaped that when bending tensile force acts on the flat cable, a component of turning force by the flat cable can act on the recessed step portion 16b to prevent dislodgment of the retainer 16.
