description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress permanent strain due to upward deflection of an upper surface side of a cartridge housing a cation exchange resin by pressure in a downstream direction due to a water stream or pressure loss difference and to provide an outer case of the cation exchange resin housing cartridge which does not hinder attaching/detaching of the cartridge from the outer case. SOLUTION: A water softening apparatus is provided with the cation exchange resin housing cartridge 1 and the outer case 11 for housing the cartridge 1. The cartridge 1 is constituted of a lower cartridge 3 through a bottom surface of which water can flow and an upper cartridge 2 which is provided above the lower cartridge and through an upper surface of which water can flow. The outer case 11 is constituted of an upper case 12 and a lower case 13. Between both ends of an opening in a lower surface of the upper case 12 of the outer case 11 of the cation exchange resin-housing cartridge, deflection suppressing member 37 of the upper cartridge 2 is bridged. When being bent upward, the upper cartridge 2 comes into contact with the lower surface of the deflection suppressing member 37 to suppress more deformation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
