PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the high speed of data transfer while making use of flexibility of digital control. SOLUTION: For focus search or track jump, the switching circuits 56, 58 are set on the side of converters 86, 88, while the switches 72, 74 are set on the side of a focus search/jump controller 66 and a track jump controller 70. Then, by a control signal from each jump controller, a focus and tracking driver is operated, with open-loop control performed for the objective lens position of an optical pickup. Subsequently, when servo setting conditions are valid, the switches 72, 74 are set on the side of digital filters 51, 53, with servo control carried out. Meantime, in recording and reproducing information, the switching circuits 56, 58 are set on the side of analog filters 52, 54, by which full high phase lead compensation is performed for error signals, with wide-band servo control carried out.
