description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a float operated vent valve assembly for fuel tank which completely closes a vent port during refueling and completely open the vent port again at the time of operating an engine. SOLUTION: In this float operated vent valve assembly 10 for fuel tank, a float assembly 32 stores a flexible valve member having a bead rim around its periphery in a cage so as to limit motion movement. A backing plate, provided at the underside of the valve member, is pivoted on a curved surface on the top of a float to ensure self-alignment of the valve member on a valve seat 26 of the vent port 24 when the float is moved upward for closing the vent port during refueling. When fuel is consumed and the float drops, the angled and inclined surface of the cage comes into contact with the bead rim on the valve member and effects a peel-away re-opening of the valve port.
