description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a lightning protection device to be installed at an insulator so that a prescribed gap length can be obtained by a simple and easy means even at a mounting site or the like. SOLUTION: The lightning protection device 4 equipped with a current limiting element having non-linear current-voltage characteristics is installed via a mounting fitting 12 at a ground side site of the insulator to support a power transmission electric wire 1. When an element side electrode 8 of the lightning protection device 4 is opposingly installed at an electric wire side electrode installed at the power transmission electric wire 1 via a discharging gap 11, by mounting the base end part of a removable gap adjusting gauge 13 on the element side electrode 8 of the lightning protection device 4 and by positioning the tip end part of the gap adjusting gauge 13 against the electric wire side electrode, the lightning protection device 4 is positioned in such a state that a gap length G of the discharging gap 11 is regulated, and after that, the gap adjusting gauge 13 is pulled out and removed.
