description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel sheet thickness measuring method capable of determining a ratio of acoustic velocity in consideration of the difference of acoustic velocity from the correlation between a measured value of total thickness including both the thickness of a coating and the thickness of a steel sheet and a measured value of the thickness of the coating and obtaining the accurate thickness of the steel sheet. SOLUTION: From the correlation between the measured value of the total thickness of the coated steel sheet and the measured value of the thickness of the coating simultaneously measured through the use of a sheet thickness measuring device 10, the ratio of acoustic velocity between the acoustic velocity of ultrasonic waves when they propagate through a steel sheet part of the coated steel sheet and the acoustic velocity of ultrasonic waves when they propagate through a coating part of the coated steel sheet is uniquely obtained by statistical processing. By subtracting a correction value computed by the product of the ratio of acoustic velocity and the measured value of the thickness of the coating from the measured value of the total thickness, the steel sheet thickness of the coated steel sheet is determined.
