Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a driving device improving light transmissivity and a response speed sharply in the liquid crystal display device of a transverse electric field driving system which has a wide angle of view and a satisfactory multi-level display characteristic. SOLUTION: Many switching elements 103 are formed in a matrix shape by using low-temperature polysilicon in a semiconductor layer on an array substrate. In the liquid crystal panel of transverse electric field display system which has the characteristic of the wide angle of view, voltages of common electrodes 107 are modulated in a field cycle in synchronization with signals of respective scanning wirings 101 with respect to voltages of respective pixel electrodes 106 which are supplied from a signal wiring 102. By performing in this manner, driving voltage of respective liquid crystal cells can be made larger without increasing voltages of a common wiring voltage modulating circuit 108 and a signal line driving circuit and the improving of the respense speed and the enhancing of the opening ratio of display device are realized. Moreover, electric loads to the switching elements 103 are reduced.
