The image is detected by the camera 7, and recorded. A computer 8 which inputs a recorded image through a frame grabber 9 analyzes a deformation of the reference pattern image by the object A1. That is, a control element (a point, a line or the like) of the pattern 3 is identified. The image value of only the pattern 3 stored in a memory is compared with coordinates, shape measured value of the pattern element, a deformation of the reference pattern image by the object A1 is decided, and optical characteristics are measured.
