description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for authenticating individual based on a face image capable of improving authentication accuracy by preventing illegal utilization such as a person with malicious intent successfully impersonates a user. SOLUTION: Each time authentication is performed, an authentication server 20 generates a random character string, and this is transmitted to a terminal 10 and presented to a person of authentication object. Besides, feature variables of the registered face image of the user corresponding to that character string are extracted. When the person of authentication object speaks corresponding to the presented character string, the terminal 10 transmits the feature variables of the face image to the authentication server 20. The authentication server 20 matches the previously extracted feature variables of the face image of the user with the feature variables sent from the terminal 10 and when all characters are similar, the identity of the person of authentication object is discriminated.
