description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink printer in which the size is reduced, filling interval of ink is prolonged, delivery rate and quantity of ink is kept constant, print quality is improved, volatile ink can be used, and quick dry performance is improved by reusing collected ink while regulating the viscosity thereby eliminating a waste ink holding means. SOLUTION: When print operation is started, an ink recovery pump 109 is operated at first to suck stiffened ink in the vicinity of a nozzle 120a in a print head 120. After the ink recovery pump 109 is stopped, a cap 112 descends to separate from the head 120 and stops at a position lower than a paper guide plate. Subsequently, the ink recovery pump 109 is operated again for a short time and ink in the cap 112 is returned back to an ink cartridge 101. An ink sensor 115 measures the viscosity of ink in the cartridge 101 and when it is high, a dilute solution pump 114 is driven in order to lower the viscosity of ink and supplies dilute solution additionally to the cartridge 101 from a dilute solution cartridge 102.
