Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new double variant useful for producing hydrogen, comprising a variant of a specific Rhodobacter sphaeroides RV incapable of accumulating a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid ester and incapable of expressing hydrogenase uptake activity. SOLUTION: This variant of Rhodobacter sphaeroides RV is incapable of accumulating a polyhydroxyalkanoic acid ester and incapable of expressing hydrogenase uptake activity, deposited with the association number CBS 101324 has an improved ability of producing hydrogen and is useful for producing hydrogen. The variant is obtained by inactivating a gene encoding a large subunit of uptake type hydrogenase enzyme of Rhodobacter sphaeroides and a gene encoding a synthase enzyme by two continuous mutageneses by random mutagenesis by using transposon or specific transposon by interposon.
