PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assure the sure welding strength of a head body made of metal and a face plate made of metal by providing the inner side of a weld zone of a face side aperture and a face plate made of metal with a recessed part where welding material accumulates when welding the face plate to the face side aperture of the head body. SOLUTION: The mounting of the head body 27 and the face plate 39 is executed by welding the peripheral edge of the face plate 39 to the peripheral edge of the face side aperture 37 at several points, then forming weld beads 43 in the weld zone while pouring the welding material into the spacing between the head body 27 and the face plate 39 from an outer side. At this time, the inside surface of the sole part 31 is provided with an inclined part 45 descending toward the face side aperture 37 at a specified width along the face side aperture 37. The inside surface of the sole part 31 is provided with the recessed part 47 formed with the penetration beads 43-1 where the welding material accumulates at the time of welding by this inclined part 45 and the inner side of the face plate 39. As a result, the peripheral edge of the face of the golf club head is kept less heavy.
