Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a homeotropic type liquid crystal display device which can be improved in the viewing angle characteristics in a half-tone display state. SOLUTION: A couple of substrates are arranged opposite each other. A liquid crystal material having negative dielectric anisotropy is sandwiched between these substrates. Liquid crystal molecules are homeotropically aligned. On the surface of one substrate facing the other substrate, pixel electrodes 1 are arranged in matrix and data bus lines 2 and gate bus lines 3 are arranged. The gate bus lines 3 penetrate the inside of the pixel electrodes 1. On the surface of the substrate facing the other, switching elements are arranged. The switching elements are controlled by the gate bus line 3 of another line. One the surface of the substrate facing the other. projection patterns 10 and 11 are formed. The projection patterns 10 and 11 divide the area of the pixel electrodes 1 into plural areas and are bent on the gate bus lines 3. On the surface of one substrate facing the other, a domain border restricting means is arranged. The projection patterns 10 and 11 and the domain border restricting means demarcate the border of a domain.
