description PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant detection system for accurately judging the identification of an occupant being seated on a seat without being greatly affected by the seated posture of the occupant, the cushion property, and the like and for appropriately controlling an air bag device based on the judgment result. SOLUTION: An occupant detection system is provided with strain gauges 6 and 6b that are arranged at a seat part for generating strain related to the seat of an occupant, detection circuits 11 and 11 for detecting an electrical signal corresponding to distortion being generated in the strain gauges 6a and 6b, a control circuit 13 for judging the seated condition of the occupant in a seat based on an output signal from the detection circuits 11 and 11, and an air bag device 20 with a function for setting the air bag to a specific operation mode based on the judgment result of the control circuit 13.
