The invention relates to an auxiliary device for open-end spinning. It solves the technical problem of making the travel of a piecing unit as efficient as possible. In the method according to the invention, the piecing unit movable along the spinning units of the open-end spinning machine serves for rectifying a non-stationary state of the spinning units, the running direction of the unit being controlled by a decision means in combination with a discrimination means for the purpose of determining an efficient travel of the unit in the direction of the next one spinning unit or of a plurality of spinning units which are in the non-stationary state. The discrimination means can be formed by a system of trigger circuits accommodated on the spinning units, whilst the decision means is formed by a logical circuit for recording the non-stationary state of the spinning unit and for determining the efficient running direction of the piecing unit. The device for carrying out the method provides the necessary switching means.
