Zusammenfassung: | In the resistance flash butt welding of metal workpieces, greater than 5 mm thick, the workpiece welding surfaces are fused at a constant speed of feeding the workpiece towards each other and the workpiece feed speed is increased, before upsetting, from the constant speed to a final speed during a period of 1-4 times delta max. divided by V1 (where delta max. is the max. gap between the workpiece surfaces before the increase in feed speed and V1 is the average workpiece feed speed during the period of speed increase). Pref. the duration of the period of workpiece feed at the final speed is 0.1-0.5 times delta max. divided by V1. The process gives high quality weld joints having the stable mechanical properties required for critical weldments, e.g. in large dia. gas and oil pipelines for northern regions and high pressure steam piping of thermal power stations. |
