1433077 Machinery guards JEAN WALTERSCHEID GmbH 22 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 22856/74 Heading F2J A guard, formed by tubular and funnel members 15, 16 joined by a connector member 10, for universally jointed shafts 6 of, for example, an agricultural machine, is journalled on the shaft 6, or U/J joint member 6a, by a unitary split annular plastics bearing member 1 to which the guard is snap-fitted by resilient tongues 9, 11 on the connector member 10 engaging a peripheral groove 12 on the bearing member 1 when the guard and bearing member are jointly axially assembled on the shaft 6 (Fig. 2), the guard connector member 10 having a stepped bore portion 10a in which the bearing member 1 is initially fitted (Fig. 1) and a reduced diameter locking step into which, on axial assembly, the bearing members is contracted (Fig. 2) and interlocked axially with a groove 4 on the shaft 6 on joint members 6a (Fig. 2). Removal of the guard may be effected by using, for example, two screwdrivers to simultaneously release each resilient tongue 9, 11 whereby the guard assembly may be axially withdrawn without damage to the plastics bearing member 1.
