description For the prepn. of amine and amide derivs. of phosphoric and sulphonic acids, aq. solns. of alkali metal sulphonates of 300-700 average mol. wt. are treated in solvents contg. media with amines; conveniently with mono, di or tri-ethanol-amine, in the presence of fatty-alcohol-phosphoric-acid-monoesters, at 60-80 deg.C. This is followed by the addn. of phosphoric acid to the reaction mixt. Sulphonic-acid-amide is produced when the reaction mixt. contg. a compelx salt mixt. is allowed to stand for 5-7 hours at 160 deg.C. Water formed during the reaction and any solvent present, as in this case, is removed by distillation. - Startup material sodium-sulphonates are by-products of purification of mineral oil derivs. by sulphuric acid or oleum. Convenient solvents are mineral oil fractions and macro and micro-crystalline paraffin waxes obtd. during petroleum refining.
