description 944,365. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. June 15, 1962, No. 23122/62. Heading H1A. During the formation of a metalsheathed electric cable insulated conductors 1 are drawn from a supply drum 2, and an aluminium strip 3 with a thermoplastic coating is drawn from a reel 4. The strip passes between rollers 22 which corrugate it perpendicularly to its length. Next, a forming tool folds it around the insulated conductors with the polythene inwards as shown in Fig. 2 and heated rollers 8 flatten corrugations and fuse the polythene coatings together. Forming rollers 11, 12 turn over the edges 6, 7 and an intrusion machine provides an outer thermoplastic sheathing (Fig. 4, not shown). The folded edges may be bent over a bead to avoid a sharp edge.
