description | 904,537. Controlling jet-propelled aircraft. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. April 6, 1960 [April 13, 1959], No. 12248/60. Class 4. A jet propulsion unit having a retractable set of thrust-reversing blades 4 and a noise suppressor 9 coaxially arranged with respect to the axis of the nozzle T, is characterized in that blades 4 and suppressor 9 form an integral and rigid assembly wherein suppressor 9 is positioned immediately to the rear of the set of blades, the assembly being slidable between an upstream position, in which the set of blades is retracted and the suppressor 9 is adjacent nozzle 7, and a downstream position, in which blades 4 extend to the rear of the nozzle and the noise suppressor is disposed further downstream. Suppressor 9 and blades 4 are attached by rods 11 and 12 to the carriage 7 which is movable parallel to the axis of nozzle 7 by jacks 5 and rods 6. In Fig. 2, the thrust reverser is operative and the suppressor is inoperative and the propulsive gases are deflected by eyelids 2 towards the deflecting rim 1 and are turned back towards the front by blades 4. To make the thrust-reverser inoperative, eyelids 2 are pivoted to mask rim 1, and carriage 7 is retracted until the annular rim 14 of suppressor 9 bears on rim 1. In this position, Fig. 1 (not. shown), air is drawn in through channel 11 for operation of the noise suppressor. Specifications 745,630 and 756,035 are referred to. |
