Cellulose is nitrated with mixtures containing up to 94 per cent of nitric acid, 3.3. per cent or more of magnesium nitrate and 2.65 per cent or more of water, the ratio of magnesium nitrate to water being not less than 1.2 : 1 and not more than 2.2 : 1, and preferably in the range 1.3 : 1 to 2 : 1....
