A display device comprises: a first substrate 101 including an active area AA in which a light emitting element 150 is disposed and a non-active area NA surrounding the active area; a second substrate 140; and a coating layer 180 disposed to contact a portion of the first and second substrates, or a side sealing part (580, Figure 6A) covering a space between first and second substrates, a portion of an upper surface of the second substrate, and a side surface of an end portion of the first substrate. An adhesive layer 130 may be disposed between first and second substrates. A dam part (185, Figure 3C) including a moisture absorption layer may surround the adhesive layer. The coating layer may cover at least a portion of an upper surface of the second substrate, or cover an entire surface of the second substrate. An inorganic passivation layer 105 and a thin film encapsulation layer (510, Figure 3D) having a plurality of alternately disposed inorganic and organic layers may be disposed over the light emitting element. A polarizing plate 190 may be disposed under the first substrate. The coating layer is preferably configured to prevent penetration of moisture and/or oxygen.
