Zusammenfassung:	Apparatus and method for layerwise manufacture of 3D objects from particulate build material 44, the apparatus comprises a build area, a dosing device to provide build material to a work surface; a roller 32 to pass over the build area while rotating about an axis of rotation to distribute the build material over the build area to form a uniform layer, a cleaning device comprising a plurality of perforations, the perforations extending from a cleaning surface 46, the cleaning surface is intermittently engaged against the roller surface while the roller rotates, the perforations allow build material to pass from the roller through the cleaning surface while the cleaning surface is in engagement with the roller surface. The cleaning surface maybe an elongate hollow cylinder, formed by a flexible mesh and may conform to a portion of the curvature of the roller surface. The perforations maybe of different sizes and may include elongate slots. A receiving chamber maybe provided to the side of the build area; the cleaning device may release the build material into the receiving chamber.
