description A separator (100, fig.1) for a vacuum cleaner (10, fig.1), comprising a core 300 engageable with a bin body 108 of a bin assembly (100, fig.5) defining a dust chamber 122, a filter assembly (200, fig.11) mounted to a carrier (204, fig.11) removable from the core, and an auxiliary filter 312 mounted to the core. The filter assembly preferably comprises a first filter 202, preferably a mesh with a curved (i.e., U-shaped or C-shaped) cross-section, and a second filter 208, preferably a hygroscopic filter media with a hydrochromic indicator and a flat cross-section. The filters may longitudinally overlap with axes that are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the main body of the vacuum cleaner. The airflow may flow to an outlet channel (310, fig.17) underlying the filters, before entering a motor assembly (1000, fig.1) and exiting the device. The dust chamber and the outlet channel preferably have parallel longitudinal axes. The bin body may be moveable longitudinally along the core such that the carrier is removable transversely.
