description A nebuliser outlet 20 comprises one or more first channels 24 and one or more second channels 25, wherein liquid received by the nebuliser outlet 20 can pass to one or more nebulisation regions via the first channels 24, and gas received by the nebuliser outlet 20 can pass to the nebulisation regions via the second channels 25. The first channel 24 may receive a liquid capillary 10 to provide liquid to the nebuliser outlet 20. The liquid capillary 10 may interfere with a region of the first channel at a taper or bend such that it cannot protrude beyond the outlet end 22, to ensure liquid from the capillary 10 with travel at least some distance through the first channel 24 before meeting the gas. The first channels 24 may comprise a first portion 24a and a second portion 24b, where the first portion 24a comprises a tubular channel and the second portion 24b comprises either multiple channels, an annular channel, or a segmented annular channel, so that the surface area of liquid provided to the nebuliser outlet is increased when the liquid passes from the first portion to the second portion. The second channels converge with the second portion 24b at a nebulisation region. The second channels may comprise an inner tubular second channel and an outer annular second channel, where the first channels may coaxially surround the inner second channel and the outer second channel may coaxially surround the first channels (See Fig. 9). A nebulisation region may be provided downstream of an outlet aperture or within the nebuliser outlet. Multiple nebuliser regions may be provided.
