description An apparatus for washing and sterilizing a heat exchanger of a ceiling mounted air conditioner, particularly for washing out contaminants such as dust, grease, mould and bacteria collected on a cooling fin (21, Fig.8) of the heat exchanger. The apparatus comprises a washer body (15, Fig.1) which provides fluid, such as compressed air, detergent liquid, hot washing water, room-temperature washing water, steam and hot air, to a washing module. A driving motor 20 moves spray nozzles 22 forward and backward within a predetermined angle range to spray the fluid on the cooling fin. A waste water collection vinyl cover 27 is fixed to a ceiling panel to collect contaminated waste water. A controller (28, Fig.1) controls the spray nozzle to selectively spray fluid on the cooling fin. The washing module may comprise a motor protection cover 18 that surrounds a fan motor 17 of the air conditioner. The washing module may comprise a housing (201, Fig.12) detachably fixed to the fan motor or to a fixing board (211, Fig.16) mounted on a ceiling panel (53, Fig.8). The housing may be temporarily connected to a spray nozzle support by magnets (204, Fig.12) or bolts (209, Fig.14) in arcuate slots (210, Fig.14).
