description A cartridge 300 is used with a heater base 102 having a processor and/or memory. The cartridge has a memory configured to store calibration data. When the cartridge is coupled to the heater base the memory of the cartridge is placed in communication with the processor and/or memory of the heater base. The cartridge is used in a method of supporting a humidification chamber within a humidification system. Two cartridges 300a, 300b are provided which are distinct from each other and the first cartridge is removed before the second cartridge is installed on the humidification chamber. The two cartridges are exchangeable such that only one cartridge connects to the heater base at one time and operation of the humidification system is determined based in part on a type of cartridge being connected to the heater base.
