Zusammenfassung:	A method enables control of output of information associated with a user operated control device 15 for display within a vehicle cabin 1. The method comprises detecting a hand 17 of a vehicle occupant within a volume of space. The position of the hand 17 with respect to the user operated control device 15 is determined. A time flight camera 7 having a field of view 9 can provide imaging of the hand 17. Information display is controlled in dependence on a distance between at least a portion of the hand 17 and the device 15 being less than or equal to a predefined threshold. Advantageously, additional movement of the hand towards the device 15 may result in further information content, such as secondary or tertiary functions of the control device 15, being displayed on the vehicle display unit 18.
