description A method for pressure protection of an offshore platform 14, 16 of an oil and gas Installation which is connected to source of hydrocarbons e.g. a subsea production system 12 via a pipeline 18. The method comprises: using a safe link device 62 at the pipeline 18, located subsea and outside of the safety zone of the platform e.g. at 500m. The safe link device 62 activates or fuses to release pipeline pressure from when it exceeds a preset threshold above the normal ultimate limit state pressure for the platform. The safe link device preferably provides a multiple redundant physical pressure relief system e.g. a rupture disc or breakable pin valve and may be used alongside, and with a higher activation pressure than, a High integrity Pressure Protection system (HIPPS) 20. The activation pressure may be below the pipeline accidental limit state pressure e.g. at 430-450 barg. Allows removal of inventory emergency depressurization equipment and flare stack with resulting reduction in platform size.
