description A connector for fluid chromatography, comprises a female assembly 12 that has a receiving member that releasably interlocks with a male assembly 10. The male assembly comprises a force-transmitting member 26 for exerting axial pressurization, and a capillary conduit 22 extending slidably through a passage 28A, 28B in the force-transmitting member for conveying chromatography fluid. The male assembly also comprises a sealing gasket 24 surrounding a front end of the capillary conduit, the sealing gasket having a rearward facing surface located so as to directly contact a forward facing surface of the force-transmitting member for subjecting the sealing gasket to axial pressurization. Preferably, the sealing gasket has a stepped front end 24*. The male assembly also comprises a jacket 32 surrounding the sealing gasket for providing axial guidance and alignment. A hollow hand holding shell (138, fig 3A) may be provided that receives the force-transmitting member. A coating layer (136, fig 3A) may be provided on the capillary that limits insertion of the capillary into the force-transmitting member. The connector is particularly suited for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) applications.
