A cleaning appliance with steering member

A cleaning appliance such as a cylinder type vacuum cleaner comprises separating apparatus 100 for separating dirt from a dirt-bearing fluid flow, a floor engaging rolling assembly 200 which includes means for drawing the fluid flow through the separating apparatus 100, a chassis 400 connected to the rolling assembly 200, a duct 300 pivotably connected to the chassis 400 for conveying the fluid flow to the separating apparatus 100, a floor engaging steering member 408 for steering the rolling assembly 200, and a control mechanism (410, 412, fig 5) for moving the steering member 408 relative to the rolling assembly 200 in response to movement of the duct 300 relative to the chassis 400. The steering member 408 may be a plurality of wheels.
