Zusammenfassung:	A urinary catheter comprises a tube 4 having a proximal opening for the outlet of urine and a distal opening 10 for the inlet of urine, and two electrodes 12, 14 inside the tube and connected to a power source 16, wherein a plane AA perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tube intersects the distal opening and at least one electrode. In use a current is provided to the electrodes thereby preventing, reducing or lessening encrustation and subsequent blockage of the catheter. In a preferred embodiment the power source such as a watch battery is attached to the tube. Various preffered voltages, currents and dimensions are disclosed.
