description A combined air conditioning and supercharging system for a vehicle comprises a compressor 10 communicating air with an intercooler 14, a first bypass valve 16 directing air from the intercooler 14 either to an engine 12 or to an expansion turbine 18, a second bypass valve 20 communicating a portion of the air from the turbine 18 to the engine 12 and the remaining air directed to an air mixing device 22, and air is drawn by a fan 26 from an interior of the vehicle 11 and mixed with the air from second bypass valve 20 in the air mixing device 22 and directed into the vehicle interior 11. Air to the compressor 10 maybe from outside of the vehicle or recirculated air from the vehicle interior 11. Compressor 10 maybe driven by the engine 12 or electrically driven. Intercooler 14 maybe a down flow or cross flow type. Air mixing device 22 is shown in detail in figs 3 - 5 and the air from the second bypass valve 20 is only mixed with air drawn by fan 26 from the vehicle interior 11 at a downstream core flange (42, fig 3). Valves 16 and 20 may be adjusted by an electronic controller. The size of the system can be reduced by integrating the compressor 10 and turbine 18.
