On the occurrence of a power failure of the disk drive, the mechanism retracts the read/write heads 55, 58 automatically from the medium. The stored mechanical energy during the retract motion of the read/write heads 55, 58 acts on the retract lever 91 to allow the read/write heads 55, 58 automatically to be retracted from the medium.
