description The machine comprises a bed (1) mounting vertically parting half-moulds (4, 5) and mechanisms (3) for fixing the half-moulds and cores. Positioned below the half-moulds (4, 5) in coaxial alignment therewith during pouring operation is a bottom plate (10). The upper end of the bottom plate (10) has a cavity (11) intended for the formation of a piston head portion and a recess (12) intended to receive a piston reinforcing member. The bottom plate (10) is mounted for horizontal reciprocation so as to be brought to a position underneath the half-moulds (4, 5) from a position outside the area of their disposition (Fig. 2). The machine also includes a metal-conducting pipe (18) through which the melt is admitted into the mould.
