description | 8839. Vermond, E. N., and Zuellennec, E. M. April 30, 1909, [Convention date]. Cultivators, diggers, and harrows. - Rotary d i g g e r s or harrows driven by motors are provided with special means for suspending and driving the tools and controlling and indicating their position. The long digger shaft 2 is mounted in arms 3, which are placed outside the rear wheels 7 and are pivoted between the front wheels 6 and rear wheels 7. The shaft 2 is driven from the motor 17 through reversing gearing 18, chains 21, shaft 23, spur-gearing 24, 25, chains 27, and spur-gearing mounted in a casing 30. Change speed gearing may be employed. The chains 27 are tensioned by rocking the casings 30 about the shaft 2 and then fixing them by means of bolts 36 and serrated, jointed, and slotted segments 34. The arms 3 are supported by rods 9 acting through springs 12 and bearing-pieces 11 and provided with racks 10 gearing with pinions 15 on a shaft 16, which is connected with a shaft 44 by worm gearing 54, 55 and reducing gearing 53. The shaft 44 is connected with the driving- shaft 23 by spur gearing and reversing bevel gearing which is thrown into gear to raise or lower the digger shaft 2 by means of a clutch connected by link and lever mechanism to a hand-lever 52. The racks 10 are held against the pinions 15 by rollers 56 carried by pivoted forks. The arms 3 are provided with pins 59 engaging in fixed guides 58 which are curved about the pivot shaft 4. A shaft 63 is driven by a chain from the shaft 44 and is connected by bevel-gearing 64, 65 with a screw-threaded rod 66 passing through an indicator nut 67, which moves in front of a scale 68. Specification 8838/10 is referred to. |
