Studs and the like, m e t a l l i c. - Metal protectors which are driven into soles and heels are provided with grooves or recesses which taper upwards and in the opposite direction to the taper on the protectors themselves. Fig. 2 shows one form of protector, e being the groove in the body part d. The protectors may be provided with thin-walled projections f, which, after the protectors are inserted, are turned over to hold the protectors in place. In some cases, particularly for soles, they are provided with one or more wings g, Fig. 6. They may also be provided with integral or detachable heads h, which project above the surface of the sole &c.
