Improvements in Liquid Level Indicators for Liquid Fuel Tanks

Indicators actuated by floats.-A liquid-level indicator for use in liquid-fuel tanks is provided with means for preventing the operation of the registering-device by the float when the level of the fuel is disturbed by jolting or tilting of the tank. The float-spindle 7, Fig. 1, carries a pawl 11 which engages with a ratchet-bar 10, thus preventing an upward movement of the float 8, and consequently the operation of the registering-device 6, when the fuel-level is suddenly disturbed. The pawl is thrown out of engagement when the tank is to be re-filled, by a bar 14 pivoted to the bottom of the tank and engaging with a weight 13 on the end of the pawl. An extension 21 of the screwed stopper 20, by engaging with a bevelled lug on the bar 14, throws the bar over and thus lifts the weighted end of the pawl. In a modification, Fig. 4, in which the registering-device is ope. rated by a nut 31 on the float 30 engaging with a screw-spindle 28, the screw-spindle carries pivoted weighted arms 35, which are adapted to rise upon sudden upward movement of the float and engage with a crown ratchet-wheel 33.
