description | 25,998. Joy, C. L. Nov. 16. Surfacing the sides of skate runners or blades. A device for supporting the skate blade while being ground comprises an attachment to be secured to a reciprocating table and adapted to engage a stationary former, so that the grinding-point follows the contour of the blade, which is held against its bed during the grinding operation by guide-rolls. The blade 42 rests on a ledge 32, Fig. 2, on a block 25, Fig. 3, which swings on pivots 26 between end pieces 27, 28 attached to a vertical slide 17. Lugs 33, 34 prevent end motion of the blade. The slide 17 engages an upright 14 adjustably secured to the reciprocating table 1. Springs 22 keep the roller 21 carried by the slide 17 -in engagement with an adjustable stationary former 18 secured to the bed 2. The block 25 is tilted with respect to the grinding- wheel by the adjustment of screws 31 passing through block 29, which has a lip 30 in contact with the block 25 and engaging the block 28. The blade 42 is held against the block 25 during the grinding operation by rollers, pins, &c. 35, 36 mounted on adjustable arms 39 on the bed 2. The grinder operates between the two rollers. The means for reciprocating and reversing the table 1, and the arrangement of the grinder, are similar to those commonly used in knife-grinding machines. |
