description | 13,763. Dunning, C. H. June 16, 1905, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Feeding sheets.-Relates to a machine for producing imitation deckle or untrimmed edges on paper, cardboard, leather, cloth, leatherette, or other material, after manufacture. The invention is particularly described with reference to paper. One or more sheets are placed on a table 30, Fig. 5, provided on its underside with a ratchet 46, operated by a toothed sector 45 on the shaft 42, to bring the front edge of the paper between two rapidly-revolving hard-wood rollers on the shafts 12, 15, which are covered with spirallywound strips 16 of leather, to which are secured yielding and elastic metallic projections or wire points as used in carding wool &c. The paper is clamped on the table 30 by a bar 33 pressed down during each forward travel of the table by a screw nut 49 on a stud 47 fixed in a block 53 guided in a vertical slot in the bracket 54 and carrying a pin. passing through a curved slot in the sector 45.of the form shown. A gauge against which the paper is placed comprises a bar 34 mounted on brackets 35 on a journal 36 and normally held in position by a spring 37. The shoulder 38 on the table, acting on points 39 on the brackets 35, pushes the bar 34 out of the way during feeding. Fingers 41, slidably mounted on the angular bar 40 and having their cear ends level with the strip 32 of metal on the end of the table 30, are provided to support the edges of sheets of paper of different widths after the gauge 34 has been swung downwards. The shaft 42, which operates the table 30 and clamp 33, is turned by a hand-lever 44. The table 30 slides horizontally on suitable guides on brackets 31 fixed to the frame, and is provided with a slot 55 through which small sheets that have been deckled can be dropped. |
