Zusammenfassung: | 17,692. Legge, G. H. Aug. 15. Couplings, automatic.-In an automatic coupling for railway wagons, tramcars, &c., a rod B, mounted in a cylinder E on each vehicle, is adapted to enter a cylinder A on the vehicle to be coupled, so that on engaging the rounded limbs of a bifurcated stop C, the coupling - rod raises a lever G carrying the stop and a pin D. Further progress of the coupling- rod now brings two side slots R, Fig. 3, and a hole S in the rod under the limbs of the stop and the pin respectively, so that they fall into engagement, and coupling is effected. To uncouple, the operation of handles on either side of a crossbar J actuates a link H connected to the lever G. The pin and stop are thus withdrawn, and the vehicles set free to separate. The lever G works in a guide K, and is pressed down by a spring I. The cylinders are mounted between the buffers, and, to avoid strains, the coupling-rods, pressed out by springs F, are, by slots and pins, allowed a limited telescoping motion in their cylinders E. |
